Artichoke Stoneware Serving Dish by Vagabond House

Pewter artichoke handles rise at either end of this oval stoneware serving dish. The white bowl provides a simple center for a shared side course, with the vegetable's layered leaves giving the metalwork a recognizable garden form.

“An oval serving dish needs room at both ends. I would keep the artichoke handles free and give the serving utensils a clear place beside the vegetables.”
-Mrs. Mayfair

Maker / Heritage

Vagabond House began in 1986 by turning antique silver tableware into jewelry and table accents. The Haas and Hardy families focused the company on tableware after acquiring it in 2004, and three generations now contribute to the Sierra Madre, California business. Its designers look closely at nature, old architecture and antiques, then work with carvers, artisans and fabricators to bring those ideas into useful objects. In the pewter work, details such as the veins of an oak leaf or the textured skin of a pear are carved and polished into the form. That attention to small, recognizable things gives the pieces much of their character at the table.
