Encanto Charlotte Slate Enameled Picture Frame by Beatriz Ball - 5 x 7 in.

Slate enamel gives Charlotte's beaded border a cool, restrained color around a 5-by-7-inch photograph. The aluminum-alloy frame has a velvet backing and can be displayed vertically or horizontally. Its small repeating details suit a considered bedside or desk arrangement without asking the photograph to be formal or monochrome.

“Slate is a useful frame color to me because it gives a photograph definition without a hard black border. A little space beside it lets the beaded edge remain visible when the picture is viewed closely.”
-Mrs. Mayfair

Maker / Heritage

Cuban-born designer Beatriz Ball began working with metal artisans outside Mexico City in 1991. Her signature metalware is still made one piece at a time in the brand’s own foundry in Mexico: sand casting gives the forms their character, and successive hand-polishing stages bring out the alloy’s silvery luster. More than twelve pairs of hands take part in the making. The appeal is that combination of expressive shape and useful purpose, with the warmth of handwork and none of silver’s routine tarnish polishing.

In the frames, the same attention to a shaped edge gives a personal photograph a considered setting. The metal surround is decorative in its own right without needing to dominate the image.
