Garden Bamboo Polished Metal Picture Frame by Beatriz Ball - 4 x 6 in.

Bamboo-shaped canes and joints give this small Garden frame a light, decorative rhythm. Cast in aluminum alloy and hand polished, it surrounds a 4-by-6-inch photograph with a silvery border that sits comfortably among books or beside a small lamp. The botanical reference is in the metalwork itself, rather than an applied print.

“A photograph need not be formal to deserve a beautiful frame. I like this little bamboo surround for an unposed moment, where the naturalistic metalwork gives the picture a setting without taking away its spontaneity.”
-Mrs. Mayfair

Maker / Heritage

Cuban-born designer Beatriz Ball began working with metal artisans outside Mexico City in 1991. Her signature metalware is still made one piece at a time in the brand’s own foundry in Mexico: sand casting gives the forms their character, and successive hand-polishing stages bring out the alloy’s silvery luster. More than twelve pairs of hands take part in the making. The appeal is that combination of expressive shape and useful purpose, with the warmth of handwork and none of silver’s routine tarnish polishing.

In the frames, the same attention to a shaped edge gives a personal photograph a considered setting. The metal surround is decorative in its own right without needing to dominate the image.
