Garden Bamboo Polished Metal Picture Frame by Beatriz Ball - 8 x 10 in.

Garden Bamboo translates the familiar joints and rounded canes of bamboo into hand-polished aluminum alloy. The silver-colored surround gives an 8-by-10-inch photograph a decorative frame without the visual weight of a dark border. It can be displayed vertically or horizontally, making the choice of photograph, rather than the furniture arrangement, the starting point.

“The bamboo outline makes me think of a garden portrait or an informal family photograph. A larger frame like this deserves a little breathing room, so its cane-like border and the picture inside are both easy to enjoy.”
-Mrs. Mayfair

Maker / Heritage

Cuban-born designer Beatriz Ball began working with metal artisans outside Mexico City in 1991. Her signature metalware is still made one piece at a time in the brand’s own foundry in Mexico: sand casting gives the forms their character, and successive hand-polishing stages bring out the alloy’s silvery luster. More than twelve pairs of hands take part in the making. The appeal is that combination of expressive shape and useful purpose, with the warmth of handwork and none of silver’s routine tarnish polishing.

In the frames, the same attention to a shaped edge gives a personal photograph a considered setting. The metal surround is decorative in its own right without needing to dominate the image.
