The Laguiole sommelier corkscrew folds a screw, foil-cutting blade and bottle-opening lever into a curved bone handle. Its polished metal finish follows the long, tapered outline of a traditional waiter’s wine tool. Hand-assembled in Laguiole, France, it comes with a leather sheath, presentation box and maker’s certificate.

“I would keep this bone-handled corkscrew outside its leather sheath for long-term storage; the maker explains that prolonged contact can stain the pale handle.”
-Mrs. Mayfair

Care & Ownership

Wipe the metal parts with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not immerse, soak or put in the dishwasher. Keep the handle dry. From time to time, place a small drop of suitable mechanism oil at the blade and corkscrew pivots, work the tools gently and wipe away excess. When opening wine, place the screw vertically in the center of the cork and use the lever while keeping the pull aligned with the bottle neck. Store dry, away from loose metal objects that can scratch the finish. Store the bone handle outside its leather sheath during prolonged storage because leather tanning can stain it.

Maker / Heritage

Forge de Laguiole works in the village of Laguiole on France’s Aubrac plateau, with its own forge and a workshop approach that continues through the finishing stages. The maker shapes and fits handles by hand, while its blades are forged, heat-treated and ground before final sharpening. Polishing is itself a choice: cotton or linen brings out a brighter surface, while nylon produces the quieter satin appearance. The familiar curved profile and small bee detail connect the traditional table knives to the region’s knife-making vocabulary. Developed with professional sommeliers, the house’s folding wine tool brings a sharp foil cutter, screw and lever together in one compact form.
