Care & Ownership
Dishwasher safe on a short, gentle cycle with a mild detergent. Avoid aggressive detergents and remove and dry each piece promptly after the rinse cycle to prevent water deposits. For hand washing, use mild dish soap and a soft sponge, then rinse and dry thoroughly. Store the pieces separately or in their fitted box so the polished metal and handles do not knock together. Maintain the smooth knife edge on a suitable natural sharpening stone at the maker’s recommended 20° angle, or use a professional familiar with fine table knives. Do not use the blade as a lever.
Maker / Heritage
Forge de Laguiole works in the village of Laguiole on France’s Aubrac plateau, with its own forge and a workshop approach that continues through the finishing stages. The maker shapes and fits handles by hand, while its blades are forged, heat-treated and ground before final sharpening. Polishing is itself a choice: cotton or linen brings out a brighter surface, while nylon produces the quieter satin appearance. The familiar curved profile and small bee detail connect the traditional table knives to the region’s knife-making vocabulary.
