The natural grain of walnut gives this set of six Laguiole steak knives its character. Satin stainless steel frames the handles and extends into a smooth, fixed cutting blade. Handmade in Laguiole, France, the knives come together in a presentation box with a maker’s certificate.

“I would let the natural wood handles be the detail beside a plain white plate, with a simple napkin folded nearby.”
-Mrs. Mayfair

Care & Ownership

Clean the metal promptly after use with mild dish soap and a soft, nonabrasive sponge, rinsing the metal under warm water while keeping the natural handle out of the water. Wipe the handle with a barely damp cloth and dry the entire piece immediately. Do not soak or put in the dishwasher. Keep in a dry box or fitted case, with pieces separated to protect the handles and metal finish. Maintain the smooth knife edge on a suitable natural sharpening stone at the maker’s recommended 20° angle, or use a professional familiar with fine table knives. Do not use the blade as a lever.

Maker / Heritage

Forge de Laguiole works in the village of Laguiole on France’s Aubrac plateau, with its own forge and a workshop approach that continues through the finishing stages. The maker shapes and fits handles by hand, while its blades are forged, heat-treated and ground before final sharpening. Polishing is itself a choice: cotton or linen brings out a brighter surface, while nylon produces the quieter satin appearance. The familiar curved profile and small bee detail connect the traditional table knives to the region’s knife-making vocabulary.
