Mabel Cow Pewter-Covered Stoneware Butter Dish by Vagabond House
Available to Ship: 3-7 Business Days
Mabel the cow forms the pewter cover of this stoneware butter dish. Her folded legs, floral garland and cowbell are modeled in detail, while the removable white plate gives butter a simple serving surface beneath the sculptural lid.
“Mabel is quite enough amusement for one breakfast table. I would give the butter knife its own resting dish so her sculpted cover stays clean.”
-Mrs. Mayfair

Maker / Heritage
Vagabond House began in 1986 by turning antique silver tableware into jewelry and table accents. The Haas and Hardy families focused the company on tableware after acquiring it in 2004, and three generations now contribute to the Sierra Madre, California business. Its designers look closely at nature, old architecture and antiques, then work with carvers, artisans and fabricators to bring those ideas into useful objects. In the pewter work, details such as the veins of an oak leaf or the textured skin of a pear are carved and polished into the form. That attention to small, recognizable things gives the pieces much of their character at the table.
