A rearing horse rises above a compact round marble base in this bronze sculpture after P. J. Mêne. The lifted forelegs, open mouth and flowing tail animate the composition, while the modeled ground connects the figure to its base. This brown-patinated decorative reproduction depicts the horse alone.

“I would keep the space above this horse clear; the lifted forelegs give it a taller presence than its base suggests.”
-Mrs. Mayfair

Care & Ownership

Dust with a soft, dry cloth or feather duster. If needed, gently clean the bronze with mild dish soap and water, then rinse and dry thoroughly. To maintain the patina, apply a very thin coat of nonabrasive, neutral-colored paste wax to the bronze, allow it to haze and buff gently; annual waxing is generally sufficient for indoor display. Never use shoe polish or abrasive metal cleaners. Wipe marble with a barely damp, soft cloth and dry promptly. Keep acidic cleaners, vinegar and abrasive polishes off the stone, and apply bronze wax only to the metal. Lift with both hands supporting the base, rather than pulling on projecting details, and protect the supporting furniture with a soft pad.

Maker / Heritage

Founded in 2012, Bronzhaus is a family-owned business on Long Island, New York. It commissions new castings and sources directly from artists and manufacturers, bringing together contemporary designs and reproductions of familiar sculptural subjects. Its bronzes are hot cast using the lost-wax process, with hand-poured metal capturing the modeled detail. Patinated surfaces and small differences from casting to casting give these pieces their individual character.
