The Romance Is Dead Round Cotton Twill Placemats in Blue by Sophie Williamson Design bring structure to the table without covering it entirely. Printed with Sophie’s cherry-blossom-inspired Romance Is Dead pattern against a deep blue ground, the set of six is made from substantial cotton twill and finished with an embroidered border that gives each round placemat a distinct edge. Their 14½-inch diameter creates a generous frame beneath a dinner plate while still allowing the surface of the table—or another textile beneath them—to remain part of the composition.

They are particularly good for a layered table. Use them directly on wood, place them over a contrasting or coordinating tablecloth, or mix the blue floral with napkins in another print whose colors pick up something already happening on the table. Matching pieces are certainly possible, but not required.

Care & Ownership

Machine wash at approximately 30°C or on a warm setting. Line dry away from direct sunlight whenever possible; if machine drying is necessary, use a delicate low setting. Iron from the reverse while the cotton is slightly damp, or mist lightly before pressing. Attend to stains promptly with water and a small amount of dish soap before washing. Avoid bleach and dry cleaning.

Because of their round shape and substantial twill construction, the placemats may curl slightly when first removed from their packaging. A good steam will help them settle flat, and they will also relax naturally with use.
