Seahorse Pewter Candlestick by Vagabond House

A hand-finished pewter seahorse rises to support the taper socket of this tall candlestick. The curled marine figure gives the fourteen-inch form a sculptural profile, translating a coastal subject into a piece for the evening table.

“One strong silhouette can be enough for a small console. I would give the seahorse a clear view, with ample space around a lit taper.”
-Mrs. Mayfair

Care & Ownership

Fit tapers securely in the sockets and place on a stable, heat-resistant surface away from drafts and at least 12 inches from flammable materials. Never leave burning candles unattended. Follow the candle's own burn instructions and extinguish before the flame approaches the holder. Let wax and metal cool completely before moving or cleaning. Remove cooled wax gently, wipe with mild soapy water and a soft cloth, then dry. Avoid scraping, abrasives, silver polish, the dishwasher or heating the holder to melt wax away.

Maker / Heritage

Vagabond House began in 1986 by turning antique silver tableware into jewelry and table accents. The Haas and Hardy families focused the company on tableware after acquiring it in 2004, and three generations now contribute to the Sierra Madre, California business. Its designers look closely at nature, old architecture and antiques, then work with carvers, artisans and fabricators to bring those ideas into useful objects. In the pewter work, details such as the veins of an oak leaf or the textured skin of a pear are carved and polished into the form. That attention to small, recognizable things gives the pieces much of their character at the table.
