The Silo Butter Keeper uses an inverted butter bell seated in a water-filled base. Its compact stoneware form holds about one and a half standard sticks, with white glaze and an exposed clay foot that sit comfortably beside a bread board. Care & Ownership

Wash both stoneware parts with mild dish soap or in the dishwasher; dry completely before refilling. Add clean water to the base and pack a small amount of butter into the inverted lid to form the water seal. Use clean utensils and refresh the water regularly.

For room-temperature serving, use only salted butter, keep it covered below 70°F and set out no more than one to two days’ supply. Refrigerate unsalted, cultured, whipped or flavored butter, and refrigerate for longer storage. Follow the butter’s label; the water seal does not make butter safe for weeks at room temperature.
