Care & Ownership

Hand wash each tool gently with mild soap and a soft sponge, keeping the wood handles from prolonged soaking. Rinse and dry promptly, taking care with the cutting edges. Avoid the dishwasher, oven, microwave, abrasives and metal polish. Occasionally condition clean, dry wood handles with a thin coat of food-grade mineral oil and buff away the excess. Store with sharp edges protected.

Maker / Heritage

Vagabond House began in 1986 by turning antique silver tableware into jewelry and table accents. The Haas and Hardy families focused the company on tableware after acquiring it in 2004, and three generations now contribute to the Sierra Madre, California business. Its designers look closely at nature, old architecture and antiques, then work with carvers, artisans and fabricators to bring those ideas into useful objects. In the pewter work, details such as the veins of an oak leaf or the textured skin of a pear are carved and polished into the form. That attention to small, recognizable things gives the pieces much of their character at the table.
