Vida Bloom White Melamine Rectangular Serving Bowl by Beatriz Ball - Large

Bloom's flowing rectangular bowl combines a long serving footprint with fluted sides and a petal-like edge. Beatriz Ball's collaboration with Gretchen Murchison brings a ceramicist's sense of movement to white melamine. The generous 19-by-13-inch form can hold a substantial shared dish or ice around bottles for a gathering indoors or outside.

“The rectangular form gives a shared serving a clear direction along the table. I would leave both ends easy to reach, letting Bloom's irregular edge soften the arrangement without crowding the dishes beside it.”

Care & Ownership

Wash on the top rack of the dishwasher, or by hand with mild detergent and a soft sponge. Presoak dried food in warm water so it lifts without hard scrubbing; avoid abrasive pads and cleaners. Do not use in an oven or microwave. Dry before stacking, and place pieces gently together to protect the modeled rims.

Maker / Heritage

Cuban-born designer Beatriz Ball began working with metal artisans outside Mexico City in 1991. Her signature metalware is still made one piece at a time in the brand’s own foundry in Mexico: sand casting gives the forms their character, and successive hand-polishing stages bring out the alloy’s silvery luster. More than twelve pairs of hands take part in the making. The appeal is that combination of expressive shape and useful purpose, with the warmth of handwork and none of silver’s routine tarnish polishing.

Bloom grew from Ball’s collaboration with Louisiana ceramicist Gretchen Murchison. Its rippling, petal-like outlines bring the movement of a ceramic form to practical serving pieces.
